Ways To Keep Your Pond Pump Clean

Keeping your pond pump clean is one of the most important things you can do to help keep your pond looking as good as possible.

Pond pumps are one of the most important features in your outdoor water area. They keep replenishing the oxygen that is so critical to your pond life and the bacteria on your filters. That means that keeping your pond pumps clean is an action that should be done on a regular basis, as it will ensure they are working at their peak efficiency. Here are some tips for keeping any pond pumps in your outdoor water areas clean:

* On pond pumps, keep in mind there are no parts that need oil or lubrication of any kind. Do not introduce any substances like oil and lubrication to your pond pumps and the water of your pond.

* On pond pumps, the air filter integrated into the system needs periodic cleanings. When you clean the filter media:
o Just remove the air filter cover.
o Remove the filter media from the pond pumps.
o Rinse off the filter media completely with cold water.
o Place the media back into the empty filter cavity once it is thoroughly cleaned.
o Place the air filter cover back in its original spot and reconnect.

* On pond pumps, you need to replace diaphragms and flapper valves when you notice that the airflow has slowed down. There are replacement part kits available to fix your pond pumps yourself. On your pond pumps, you will find two diaphragms and two flapper valves.

It is recommended that you clean your pond pumps at least once a ‘season’, so you may wish to make a schedule for yourself so you don’t forget. A pond pump working at less than peak efficiency is not giving your pond environment the maximum amount of benefits it is capable of. And remember – two pond pumps in a pond can work better than one! (Plus, you’ll have a back up if one would happen to break down.)
